According to NASS, total milk production in the Northwest increased slightly from August 2023 to August 2024.  Idaho’s herd increased 1,000 cows over the past year to 667,000 cows, with each cow producing 2,180 pounds of milk, for total production of 1.454 million pounds in August, a 0.3% year over year increase.

 

In Oregon, the dairy herd shrunk slightly from 120,000 to 118,000 cows, with each cow producing 1,780 pounds of milk each.  The state produced 210 million pounds of milk in August, down 1.4% from 2023’s numbers.

 

The Washington dairy herd increased 3,000 head to 260,000 cows, with pounds per cow showing a slight increase to 2,055.  And with total milk production in August at534 million pounds, that’s a year-over-year increase of 1.3 %.

According to NASS, the 24-state total milk production increased from August 2023 to August 2024 0.1%.
