Bill Requiring Alternative Protein Labeling Becomes Law In Idaho
Legislation requiring lab-grown protein to prominently disclose that information on packaging in Idaho has been signed into law by Governor Brad Little. The Idaho Farm Bureau Federation’s Dexton Lake says the new law, Senate Bill 1270, requires alternative proteins to be clearly labeled as lab-grown, cell-cultivated, or cell-cultured, with that disclosure prominently displayed on packaging.
"The bill also prohibits the use of traditional meat terms like steak, roast, or brisket to prevent consumer confusion," Lake said. "The goal is transparency, ensuring consumers know exactly what they are purchasing.”
Senate Bill 1270 was signed into law by Governor Little on Wednesday, April 1st.
