YVC Launches 3rd Cohort Of Ag Sciences
This fall, Yakima Valley College welcomed in their 3rd cohort of students seeking a Bachelors of Applied Science in Agricultural Sciences degree. Trent Ball, head of YVC’s Ag Department said what makes their program unique is the connection with the farming community across central Washington. He noted their program is designed to meet the needs of those already working in the industry, or those with a few credits to their name. He added their Bachelors of Applied Science program was designed for anyone looking to make a step up in their career, or perhaps looking to become a manager or supervisor.
“Taking individuals who got an existing associate, and giving them that opportunity to obtain the bachelor 's degree. So, if you're already working in the industry and you're looking for some kind of a career change, or career growth, I hope you look at YVC and our bachelor's in applied science and agricultural sciences.”
Ball added it’s truly exciting when looking at the career opportunities that are available in agriculture and beyond.
“It's a highly technical industry, so you need technical training, whether that's automation or precision ag," Ball said. "And there's also a lot of job opportunities in marketing and sales; not to take away from the importance and the science, and the research that goes into growing and producing crops. And I was just looking at a recent publication from Indeed on the 15 highest paying Ag jobs, and they are farm manager, agronomy, Ag equipment, Agri business manager, food technologist. And all of those pay you know $60,000 and above for annual salaries. So, these are great careers.”
