WSP Reminding Truck Drivers To Check Their Big Rig

Following a collision between a potato truck and transit bus in Kennewick, the Washington State Patrol is remind truck drivers to inspect their vehicles to ensure everything is working properly.  WSP’s David Coppinger told the Washington Ag Network even during the busy harvest season, drivers must walk around their truck and inspect in thoroughly.

“Checking the lights, checking the brakes, checking the air loss rate, the steering, and the also check from the previous shift that the truck was used, if the driver was different any noted defects and if those defects had or had not been corrected.”

After that, drivers will have specific paperwork they must fill out and have available upon request.  Coppinger said the Washington State patrol takes big rig safety very seriously.

“Officers that watch for equipment violations.  Their most important job duty is to as best as possible ensure the safety of the motoring public around these big trucks.”

Coopinger added drivers can be held responsible for a collision if routine maintenance is not followed.
