The winter wheat harvest results from the 2017 Washington State University cereal variety testing program are complete and have been released.  Those figures have been uploaded to the University’s Variety Selection Tool, which WSU’s Ryan Higginbotham said has been updated with farmers in mind.  He told the Washington Ag Network these improvements will benefits growers across the entire Northwest.

“So, it’s an interactive place where growers can look at results on a two year average, across whatever precipitation zone they farm in.  So they can chose their market class they can choose their precipitation zones and it will populate a table they can then filter and sort and tinker with to get it to display only what they are interested in and then if they want they can even export that data to an excel file.”

Higgenbothem said that data file can then be used to determine what varieties will work best for each individual growers.  He notes researchers had a good year in terms of harvest results , and lost only lost two locations out of 24.  School officials say spring wheat and barley results will be added as soon as those figures are available.
