The most recent look from the USDA shows that the hot, dry conditions throughout the Inland Northwest have begun to take their toll.

In Washington pasture conditions were rated 58 percent very poor to poor, and Oregon had 44 percent very poor to poor.

There are also reports of corn not developing properly with the ears not filling in.
The smoke has also made field work difficult this week and will do so for at least one more day.

Soil moistures were also reported to be struggling with 95 percent of Oregon’s topsoil very short to short along with 82 percent of subsoil moisture. Washington’s topsoil is 79 percent very short to short and the subsoil sits at 51 percent very short to short.
