We Moved Swiftly To Aid Farmers, Rollins Says
Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins told the House Ag Committee this week that economic assistance checks have gone out the door to more than half a million farmers in record time. Rollins told lawmakers that USDA has moved swiftly to get Emergency Commodity Assistance checks, which Congress approved back in December, out to producers.
“We have already sent out aid to more than 500,000 farmers in just the last eight weeks, with a total of over $7.7 billion out the door to date," Rollins said. "Additionally, we have issued $1 billion of the Emergency Livestock Relief to date.”
Farmers Need Action From Lawmakers
Rollins said that’s especially important, given Congress has not passed a new Farm Bill at this point. And as Hill Republicans push to enact the president’s agenda-setting tax and spending bill that Democrats oppose due to SNAP and Medicaid cuts.
“This bill leverages a ‘once in a generation’ opportunity, and specifically for our farmers, increasing $3.8 billion in income and protecting over two million of our family farms from the ‘death tax,’ and cutting more than ten billion dollars in taxes,” the Secretary said.
With tax breaks for interest payments, bonus depreciation, and small business income.
