WCA: Grazing Should Be Part of Fire Management

August is the heart of the wildfire season for the Northwest and Pacific coast.  And while firefighters battle the front lines of several blazes across the region, the fight continues in D.C. and Olympia how to prevent large scale fires before they begin.

Sarah Ryan, Vice President of the Washington Cattlemen’s Association said grazing should be part of that conversation.  She said that was one of the key portions of their recent annual Range Tour in Klickitat County.  Ryan notes many in the ag community already see the advantage of grazing when it comes to wildfire prevention, now the key is educating those outside of the Ag industry.

“We certainly hope people are starting to realize that utilization of grasses helps with resource management to where we can have fewer large fires.”

This year’s Range Tour saw over 70 people tour the Glenwood area of southern Washington.
