Washington and Idaho Trailing in Winter Wheat Harvest

Most of the country is wrapping up, or has wrapped up their winter wheat harvest with 94 percent of the nation’s crop in the bin.

Washington and Idaho are the furthest away from completing harvest according to new numbers released by the USDA and the two Northwest states have just surpassed the midway point in the past week.

The nation is a little ahead of last year’s pace though Washington is behind both last year and the five-year average.

Quality in the Northwest for winter wheat is looking better than spring wheat with 84 percent of Washington’s winter wheat rated as good to excellent, 76 percent of Oregon’s though Idaho is lagging with just 62 percent in good to excellent condition.
