Blueberry production in Washington continues to climb, with 2025 coming in close to, if not equal to, the previous year’s record crop of 210 million pounds.

Alan Schreiber, Executive Director of the Washington Blueberry Commission, says they’ve collected assessments on 184 million pounds.  That means, he added, even if they don’t get any more assessments, 2025 would be the 2nd biggest crop on record.

He was quick to point out while the deadline to submit assessments was October 31st, they continue to trickle in.

“If you take the people that didn’t pay yet, add up their 2024 production, and just assume they’re going to be flat, we would come in at 207 million pounds," Schreiber said.  "But, again, that’s just me being brave with a spreadsheet. But I’m reasonably sure we’re going to come in between 200 and 210 million pounds. So, that’s a big number.”

What does the crop look like when you break down fresh and frozen?

“If we get to 200 million pounds in 2025, we estimate that 75% is processed," Schreiber said.  "That’s 150 million pounds. At the beginning of the year, I had projected 70% processed and 30% fresh.”

Since joining the commission in 2006, Schreiber says Washington’s blueberry production has grown 12-fold.

Currently the Evergreen state is tops in the country for blueberry production.
