Walla Walla PD Warning Of Scams Targeting Wineries

The Walla Walla police department is warning Northwest wineries to be on the look out for fraud.  WWPD Sergeant Kevin Braman says two wineries received orders, via e-mail, but both businesses those the requests sounded a bit suspicious.

"The combination of the large order of wine, in one case I think it was roughly $1,500 worth and the other case was it was substantially more than somewhere around $4,000, so they were pretty cautious ensuring they recieved payment before delivering the wine."

Braman said both wineries were able to prevent the fraud by paying attention to small details.

"When they received check payment for the orders the name on the check did not match the correspondence they had in the e-mail."

Any wineries that may have received similar fraudulent orders are encouraged to contact their local law enforcement so investigators can be made aware.
