A 25-mile walk through central Washington’s Yakima Valley this Saturday is slated to bring workers, families, labor groups and immigrant-rights organizations together in support of immigrant workers and their families.  The “We Are Here” Walk begins at five a.m. at Hisey Park in Granger, with participants traveling to Fullbright Park in Union Gap.

Organizers say the event is also a fundraiser to provide assistance to immigrant families affected by detention and immigration enforcement.  That assistance, organizers noted, could include phone and commissary support, direct services and legal help.

A community festival will follow at Fullbright Park, with music, food, children’s activities and informational booths.  People can participate in person for part or all of the walk, or walk virtually from their own communities.

The event is organized by the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement Pacific Northwest, along with labor and community organizations.
