The Washington Department of Natural Resources plans a prescribed burn this fall on up to 427 acres of state trust land, about 11 miles west of Ellensburg.  The operation continues a burn plan partially completed in 2025 and earlier this year.

DNR said the burn will reduce wildfire risk by removing slash and surface fuels, while promoting natural regeneration and reducing insect and disease threats.

Smoke impacts are expected to be short-lived, with smoke forecast to rise at least 3,000 feet before dispersing east.  The burn area will be closed to vehicles and foot traffic during operations.  Click Here for a map of the expected closure.
