To help producers negatively impacted by retaliatory tariffs from China, the USDA has rolled out $200 million to help boost exports through the Agriculture Trade Program.  Greg Hanes, U.S. Meat Export Federation vice president for international marketing, said this will help make consumers on the international stage more aware of the products offered by the United States.

“These new funds will allow us to go in and be very aggressive and try to reboot and recapture these markets being impacted by this additional duty.”

While much of the attention will focus on the Mexico and China markets, Hanes said the funds can be used anywhere in the world to promote American meat.

“That’s one of the exciting things about this program is there appears to be a lot of flexibility to allow us really to determine where we can have the biggest impact for our industry.”

Hanes said they could use the funds to help in Japan, a market where competitors have been signing new trade deals.  He noted this can also help in emerging markets, such as portions of Africa.
