USDA has been receiving a declining number of responses to their annual survey and they say it could hurt producers.

Economist Rob Johannson said the numbers that they get need to be accurate to best serve the farm community.

“If we get higher response rates on these surveys then that helps everybody and we get a better estimate of what the yield is going to be and then we can assured that the implementation of the programs is being based on the best available data.”

Johannson said they use the survey data to make their policies more efficient and to make USDA programs more effective.
