When it comes to cell cultured food, or as some in the Ag industry like to call it, fake meat, the USDA and FDA will work together to regulate the growing industry.  USDA's Mindy Brashears takes a look at how such a partnership will work.

There was some debate over where these  products were going to fall so what's going to happen is FDA will oversee the cell lines where the product is produced so we'll have cell lines that are maintained  and really pulls on their level of expertise.

From there, she notes, the USDA will take the lead.  While availability of cell based foods is very limited, she notes the federal government is trying to be proactive.

“We have a working grape put together with FDA with actually three different working grapes under one umbrella to come up with standards of identity, how it's going to be labeled, and where we're going to go with these products,” Brashears noted.
