Time Again For Oregon To “Grow This”
If you're thinking of growing a garden this year, you can get a free seed kit from Oregon State University Extension's statewide seed giveaway, thanks to the “Grow This! Oregon Garden Challenge.” It’s spearheaded by Food Hero, a statewide initiative of the Oregon Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education Program.
"Anyone in Oregon can join the challenge. It's a call to families, schools, any other kind of groups to garden together and eat what we grow. We'll have 1,600 classroom kits and 3,600 households."
Food Hero coordinator Lauren Tobey says the seed giveaway started in 2020 and continues to grow.
"Last year we had over 93-thousand Oregonians who signed up to participate in some way with Grow This and that was a 62% increase from the year before."
