While it's been slow, some progress has been reported when it comes to spring wheat plantings.

"We saw overall progress advancing from 10% planted a week ago to 30% on May 6th, five-year average 51%, last year 51%," said USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey.

Rippey noted much of the progress was made in the upper plains, such as South Dakota.  When it comes to emergence.

"Like some of our Midwestern crops, it's gonna be a little behind a week or two because of the late planting that occurred this year." Ripey noted.  "Overall, just 4% of the spring wheat emerged by May 6th, five-year average 22%."
