With the winter wheat harvest wrapping up, probably this week, spring wheat will be finishing up shortly as well and it is proving challenging for growers.

The USDA rated spring wheat in Washington as 41 percent good to excellent, and Idaho has 56 percent.

The Northwest is in better shape than elsewhere in the nation where spring wheat is considered 34 percent good to excellent nationwide.

Washington’s barley crop is also just 37 percent good with none excellent, though Oregon’s barley crop is looking very strong. Potatoes and corn are looking mostly good to excellent throughout the Northwest though Dry Edible Beans are struggling with quality, as are onions in Oregon.
