Manoj Shukla has been named the new leader of Oregon State University’s crop and soil science department.  He starts his new position on December 1st.  Shukla comes to Corvallis from New Mexico State University, where he was recently a professor.

“I strongly believe that higher education is fundamental to improving the lives of people,” Shukla said.  “Being able to work with students, teach them and learn from them, and just having an opportunity to make a positive impact on their lives is what makes me passionate about higher education."

Shukla’s background includes stops at the Ohio State University, University of Illinois as well as the University of Agricultural Sciences in Vienna, Austria.

Shukla replaces Tom Chastain, who led the department for more than five years.  Chastain recently announced his plans to pursue a private business opportunity.
