Senator Roberts Calms Fears over White House Budget Proposal
At the Montana Ag Summit, Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee Pat Roberts said he had a clear thought when he first saw the proposed budget of President Trump for 2018.
“The proposal came over the transom to the ag committee and my staff was there and I asked what did they do to crop insurance. They said well, they cut it again and they want to means test it. I said just pick up the damn thing and throw it over the transom. So, that’s about what we did.”
The proposed budget could have a major impact on negotiations for the Farm Bill.
Roberts said before anyone gets too concerned, “Let me tell you something folks, the Senate hasn’t taken a budget proposal from the White House or from OMB, might as well use a dartboard as opposed to OMB but at any rate, I don’t think we considered one seriously since Reagan.”
