USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue is pushing his staff to reach out and help the less fortunate.

Perdue cited an existing government program which allows government employees to donate money to any of more than 2,000 charitable causes.

“I love the way USDA celebrates helping others and I was blown away when I heard the amount earlier today; over $1,350,000 last year.”

Perdue went on to emphasize empathy amongst USDA’s employees, quoting famous agriculturist George Washington Carver.

“How far you go in life depends on you being; tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Some day in your life you will have been all of these.”

Perdue stressed the importance of helping those who are less fortunate during the meeting.
