The ag community is preparing for 2018 and new issues, or new challenges that might come along with the new year.

Scott Nielsen, President of the Cattle Producers of Washington said one of the biggest issues will be the potential forced use of RFID tags to monitor cattle movements.

“That’s something that, in his presentation, the Director [Sandison] says he’s doing or wanting to do because he feels he needs to comply with national direction.”

Nielsen also pointed to wolf management and electronic logging devices on trucks, and that riparian areas will be a big topic of conversation.

“That’s always an issue. It’s water quality and it’s about the buffers on the streams.”

CPoW recently affiliated themselves with R-Calf to gain a more national voice in shaping policies and regulations relating to cow-calf operations.
