Peru Sales Get Early Boost After Expanding
USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack is back in the U.S. after what he called a successful trip to Peru in Chile that included Peru dropping restrictions on imports of U.S. beef.
“With the OIE basically establishing the U.S. as a negligible risk country, we felt the time had come for Peru to take a look at the certification system, the documentation system, the assurances that they needed to assume the safety of the product. We were able to convince them of that.”
Vilsack noted that one company has already sold two containers of beef to Peru after lifting of the barriers.
