The upper house elections have wrapped up in Japan.  Meaning, according to Ag Secretary, Sonny Perdue, they will soon be ready to come to the table for trade talks.

“They know what we are looking for and what we are expecting,” Perdue said last week.  “I sort of outlined that; it's been very clear, it's been very reasonable about our expectations from Japan. Japan by far is the United States is your best customer and we want to be treated as one of your better customers.”

Perdue added there are many trade issues with Japan covering many products and economic sectors.

“There have been signals that they are willing to do and 'Ag first' policy on trade and looking at tougher issues later on going forward.”

Perdue said he's very optimistic that the U.S. and Japan will reach an Ag agreement that will benefit both nations.
