Perdue: Crop Insurance A Great Tool That Needs To Continue.

Some have called for the reduction or elimination of crop insurance from the 2018 Farm Bill as a way to lower the overall costs, and potentially save money.  However, the Washington Association of Wheat Growers and Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers have said on several occasions crop insurance is vital for growers to remain competitive on the international front.

During his recent stop at Washington State University in Pullman, Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says it’s important that crop insurance remains an option for wheat growers nationwide.  He added he was encouraged that both the House and Senate Farm Bill proposals contained crop insurance.

“We think that it’s been a mainstay of the safety net that the agriculture has had.  We saw that begin in 2014, as a way producers to participate in their risk management as it should be appropriate and has been a great tool. And we expect it to be continued.”

The 2014 Farm Bill expires at the end of September.
