Oregon celebrated their sixth annual Berry Festival July 15th and 16th noting that the state is one of the best when it comes to berry production.

Director of Market Access and Certification for the Oregon Department of Agriculture Lindsay Eng says Oregon residents who buy their fruit from local growers know of the high quality, but…

“They may not realize how lucky they are and how competitive on a global marketplace and with our other states Oregon is in fruit and nut production.”

Oregon is the only producer of commercial blackberries, boysenberries and marionberries while being the country’s leading producer of hazelnuts.

The state is also amongst the top five states in production of pears, sweet cherries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and cranberries.

Oregon enjoys the benefit of a climate and soil conducive to the growth of fruit.
