Northwest Farm Credit Services is hosting a retreat in January focusing planning for the future of your farm or ranch and how to transition into retirement.

Carl Sohn said it’s often one of the top issues they hear about from farmers.

“The Family Business Succession retreat is all about providing information, resources and tools for family businesses in agriculture to begin the conversations that they need to have about transition of both management and ownership.”

Attendees are asked to prepare what they want their goals to be ahead of time because the retreat will be a place to have those conversations as well.

Sohn noted that when times are tough and commodity prices are low, it can be hard to think about retirement and succession plans, but it might be the best time to do it.

“Because your frame of mind is one of, ‘We’re already in that downcycle so we’re not having to make up scenarios that play to that downside, we’re living it now. So if we build a plan that works in today’s reality, it will definitely work through the upcycles.”

The event runs from January 10th through 12th with keynote speakers Don Jonovic and Rich Thornton.

The cost for the workshop is $175 and covers the seminars and most food. You can find out more info and register on Northwest Farm Credit Services' website.
