Farmers from across Northwest Washington will fill the Washington State University Northwest Research Center Friday for a day focused on local farming and water issues.  Don McMoran, Director WSU Skagit County Extension, says Friday’s Summit starts at 8:30 a.m. focused on infrastructure, as well as the continued viability of agriculture in Skagit County.  The morning also will include an in-depth conversation about farm succession planning.

After lunch, the Summit will have its “Show Me The Money” panel, looking at innovation in agriculture.

“My folks from WSU Skagit County extension have been working with a lot of community members to get both state and federal grants," McMoran said.  "We've got Trevor Hardy, who runs a farm in Connecticut, but also runs a farm store. So, thinking differently about the assets that you have on your farm and how you can bring more income into your farm business.”

McMoran added while the day will be packed with great information to help Northwest Washington farmers succeed, he says the start of the Ag Summit will be what makes the day special.

“The planning committee decided to name the 2025 Skagit Ag Summit in honor of Steve Omdal.  He was a port commissioner at the Port of Skagit County, just a really great guy who grew up on a farm and really wanted to give back and do good things for Skagit County agriculture.”

The Summit takes place Friday at 8:30 a.m., on the WSU-Mt. Vernon campus.  Click Here for a complete schedule.
