The Washington Department of Ecology say water users in the Nooksack watershed and adjacent areas should begin receiving their adjudication claim forms via certified mail this week.  The mailing list includes about 30,000 landowners.  Ecology said these forms are the first step in adjudication, determining who has a right to use water in the Nooksack Basin and how much water they are entitled to.

Resolving these questions will provide the basis for long-term water supply planning in a region where there is a growing demand for a limited amount of water.  Ecology stresses these forms cannot be left in a mailbox and must be signed for by an adult.

Any questions, or if you’re unsure if this summons applies to you, contact Ecology for additional information at (360) 255-4406, or e-mail WRadjudications@ecy.wa.gov.

Ecology will host a webinar April 16th at 5:30 p.m. to show attendees how to fill out the claim form.  The event is free and registration is required to attend.  There are additional in-person workshops scheduled for May 28th at Pioneer Pavilion in Ferndale and May 29th at Meridian Middle School in Lynden from 5:30 -- 7 p.m.  Ecology said registration for these events will be available soon.

Again, if you have questions about this Adjudication process, you are asked to call Ecology at (360) 255-4406, or e-mail WRadjudications@ecy.wa.gov.
