Fire Season Remains Across The Northwest

Portions of the Northwest received rain over the past week, which helped reduce wildfire danger. But Jessica Neujahr with the Oregon Department of Forestry, says fire season is not over.

"We went into the season with extremely dry fuels, and it will need a lot more rain to get those fuels saturated enough to completely get rid of the fire risk," she noted.

Neujahr said it's important to know the fire restrictions in your area. If you are allowed to have a campfire, when you're finished, make sure it's dead out.

"You drown it with water, stir it with a shovel or other tool, and then you drown it with water, stir it again and you do that until it is cold to the touch, so essentially like you can put the back of your hand on it," she said.

Neujahr added fire season will likely continue into October. And if temperatures warm and it's windy, fire danger could return to levels we had before the rain.
