New Addition to Top 10 Covered Commodities
The USDA has released their list of top 10 commodities or coverages from the Risk Management Agency and there have been two new additions.
Leiann Nelson of the Risk Management Agency said, “We’ve seen whole-farm revenue protection come in at number six as of 2016. That’s a first for us and that product covers any commodity on the farm.”
At number eight, forage, range and pastureland made its debut on the list.
Nelson said, “We had a lot of expansion with the pasture, rangeland and forage products. That provides coverage to producers for those very crops. The first time in the last few years that we’ve really covered a lot more of the hay, forage and those kinds of things.”
Corns, soybeans wheat remain the top three covered commodities in the U.S. with almonds bumping up a spot to fourth.
