How well does the agriculture community embrace change?  It truly depends on the change, and who is changing.  When it comes to technology and devices baby boomers can be reluctant to adapt.  But, according to Gregg Marrs, owner of Yakima-based Blueline, the younger generation of farmers gladly embrace technology.

“Whereas their fathers and grandfathers were hesitant to adapt, the new generation of farmer, the young and mid-30s people are very adapt to change and excited by it they are not afraid of it.  So, that’s exciting, for our business and for our industry.”

Marrs told the Washington Ag Network tablets, drones and GPS have all become integrated with current ag operations.  But into the future, he anticipates the autonomous vehicle technology, pushed by Google and Tesla, will soon revolutionized day-to-day operations on the Northwest farm.

“Imagine a tractor going through the orchard or vineyard without an operators on it.  I can see that coming sooner rather than later.”
