This year's Cherry Institute is going virtual. Northwest Cherry Growers Vice President of Marketing James Michael said this year's event will feature the same quality of information growers have enjoyed year after year at in person events.

"This is the world's largest cherry meeting and this year it's free and brought to you in your own home. It's the perfect opportunity to catch up and get informed."

Michael noted many of the same researchers and marketers will be featured during the virtual event. The 78-year-old Cherry Institute will be held in a digital, January 21st, in conjunction with WSU Tree Fruit Days.

Much of this year's focus Michael noted will be Little Cherry Disease, which reduced the 2020 fresh sweet cherry crop by an estimated two to three million boxes. He said the institute will feature live sessions on addressing the challenges of LCD as well as Powdery Mildew.

"It's a who's who of those leading the charge on Little Cherry Disease in the northwest. There is also a Q&A portion as well, and that's going to be led by Tianna DuPont who's leading the WSU Tree Fruit Extension program."

Other subjects include orchard bees and improving pollination, orchard systems, a 2020 season review, and domestic and export marketing updates. Visit Washington State University's Website to learn more or to register for this on-line event.
