Kentucky Woman Sentenced For Crop Insurance Fraud

One Kentucky woman has learned, the hard way, the crop insurance fraud is not a crime taken lightly by the federal government.  Debra Muse, 63, was sentenced in U.S. District Court on Tuesday.  She’s been ordered to serve five years in prison and pay $1.6 million in restitution.

In April, she pleaded guilty to helping farmers file false tobacco crop insurance claims and created false documents to help farmers hide their crop production.  Investigators said Muse caused the federal government to pay out $5.9 million in indemnity payments to producers who weren't entitled to them.
