John Deere Looks To Make Precision Ag Easy To Use For Farmers
Everywhere you go in farming today, you here about Precision Ag and how it’s changing the industry. At its root, Precision Ag is about tools that will help farmers be more productive, more efficient, and assist with repetitive motions and actions, hopefully helping with fatigue.
One thing Precision Ag is known for is compiling data to help with daily or even long-term decisions. Erin Jost, Marketing Manager for Precision Agriculture at John Deere, said while all of that data can feel a bit overwhelming, its important producers remember that data is there to help them make incremental changes that can have a real impact on their operation.
“I know in harvest you have tractors, combines out there running, and maybe you notice a peak in your idle time that you're not used to seeing," Jost said. "That might be an opportunity for you to maybe hire a neighbor to come down and help with an additional tractor and grain cart to get that that grain out of the field more efficiently, keep those machines running, and really improve that cost per hour you're experiencing for that combine to keep it running.”
Jost added data can also help when it comes to a chemical plan, comparing yield data, making sure you got the best bang for your buck and alter plans as needed.
Jost said farmers often think the technology is extremely expensive. She added at John Deere they allow people the opportunity to slowly try the technology, rather than having to go all in right off the bat.
“We've tried really hard at John Deere to make this as walk-up easy as possible, Jost said. "We're continuing to improve on that every day. And we are backed by a really strong network of John Deere dealers that go through rigorous training to know how to get these tools set up and going with our customers. And we also provide a lot of hands-on resources for our customers, both through our Deere.com Website, the operations center, and our new app, Equipment Mobile, where you can get access to those how-to's, setup guides, and videos right there in the palm of your hands, so while you're in the cab.”
