Earlier this year a White House interagency task force led by agriculture secretary Sonny Purdue released its report on how to improve rural prosperity in our nation. Agricultural communities were included in that assessment.

A report with more than 100 recommendations addressed issues such as e-connectivity, quality of life, and economic development. Implementation is underway on some of those recommendations, and as the White House Special Assistant for Agriculture, Ray Starling, told an audience at a recent Agripulse event, that work continues.

"We at the White House are gonna continue to be involved in coordinating and monitoring the work that's coming out of some of the cross-agency initiatives that were identified there."

In terms of the report itself, Starling equates it to a map leading towards rural prosperity.

"So, it represents a multiple number of ways to get to the destination," Starling explained. "Our job is to continue to use that as a touchstone and continue to refer back to that as it drives our agenda."
