For most of the history of agriculture, animals have been there working and helping.  But a growing number of organizations have targeted these practices nationwide.

The goal is to eliminate animal agriculture, such as Oregon’s Initiative Petition 28, or heavily restrict or ban the use of working animals, or both.

In an effort to get ahead of the debate, Senate Bill 1241 has been proposed in Idaho, which is designed to prevent future attempts to restrict or ban the use of working animals in the Gem state.  Dexton Lake is with the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation said SB 1241 was fairly popular in Boise last week.

“The bill received strong support in the House Agricultural Affairs Committee, passing unanimously, and was later approved by the full House on a 67 to 0 vote," Lake said.  "It had already passed the Senate on a 31 to 3 vote.”
