Last week, Idaho and Taiwan signed a $1.2 billion, three-year letter of intent for wheat exports.

 

Britney Hurst Marchant, Executive Director of the Idaho Wheat Commission says they are very grateful for the long, steady relationship they’ve enjoyed with Taiwan.  And she noted this agreement shows a commitment on both sides.

 

“There’s the commitment of Taiwan to purchase that much wheat from the United States and from Idaho," Hurst Marchant said.  "But then there's also a really strong commitment from Idaho wheat growers to produce the quality of wheat that Taiwan millers, bakers, and consumers want in their food and have come to expect from wheat grown in the Pacific Northwest.”

 

In 2024, Taiwan imported nearly $3.7 billion of U.S. Ag products, making the island nation the 8th largest market for American Ag.  On a per-capita basis, it is the 4th largest market,
