Idaho Potatoes On Display At Skiing Championships
The eyes of the skiing world are focused on the Gem state this week. For the first time in the organization’s history, the World Cup Finals are taking place at Sun Valley. This is just one of a few times the grand finale of the international ski season has taken place in the U.S. And the Idaho Potato Commission is using the additional press to highlight the state’s top commodity.
“So we've got our Big Idaho potato truck out there," noted Potato Commission President Jamey Higham. "The bib draw, which is a big event where they decide which order they're going in, Spuddy Buddy, our mascot was pulling a little Spuddy Buddy out of a burlap sack, and that's how they got to see their numbers.”
Higham added the world had an opportunity to see what farming in Idaho is really like, and what the industry means to the state.
"We just had Idaho Potato stuff all over out there, paying tribute to our generational farm families here in Idaho. I always say that farming potatoes is less science and more art.”
The World Cup Finals wrap up Thursday. And this year’s event has already seen it’s share of record. Four months after coming out of retirement, Lindsey Vonn placed 2nd at the World Cup. The 40-year-old said her goal is to make it to a 5th Olympics in 2026, and then "retire for good".
