Corteva Agriscience is out Tolvera, an herbicide with a new mode of action to control broadleaf and grass weeds in spring and winter wheat, durum and barley.  Eric Scherder with Corteva said Tolvera can help growers address the ongoing problem of resistant weeds.

“When you think about a lot of our cereal market, when you get the PNW, we've used a lot of group Ones, AC Aces, Group Twos, ALS or Group Four, chemistry; good chemistries," Scherder said.  "By bringing this new active in the market, we're giving a robust way to try to preserve those, and get control the you want and then when you think about rotation flexibility, that's another huge benefit.  Especially going to pulse crops, lentils, peas and we got a lot of growers are thinking now I want to make the most they can of my cereals.  But I really want to make the most I can on that acre for that season, and that gives you a little more flexibility with Tolvera.”

There's A Lot Of Excitement Around Tolvera

Scherder said Tolvera can help growers control some of the most challenging weeds and grasses, including foxtail, barnyardgrass, waterhemp, wild buckwheat, wild mustards and others.  He added they’ve had a chance to work with university and industry officials across Idaho, Washington the Dakotas, and all are in agreement.

“It should come as no shock is, they’re really excited. What they're seeing when you start looking at the broadleaf control and you compare it to other products out there in the marketplace now we're expecting big things. We know this product has done very well because our Canadian counterparts have launched it, and it's almost in a 5X or 6X increase year-over-year. So, I mean we're talking about a lot of peaked up demand out there for this type of product.”
