The Northwest cherry season is ramping up.  Since May 27th, the start of harvest, growers have shipped nearly 500,000 20-pounds boxes.  Industry officials say early fruit quality has been exceptional, with excellent size, color, and flavor reported across the first harvest districts.

Northwest Cherries adds demand is also building, both in the U.S. and overseas.

This year’s crop projection remains between 18.4-19.2 million boxes, which is in line with the five-year average.  Shipment volumes are expected to climb throughout June, remain promotable through July, and begin tapering off in early August as the season winds down.

Meanwhile, California growers have already shipped more than 5.5 million boxes, 18-pound boxes, exceeding preseason expectations as their harvest wraps up.
