Through the month of June, Feeding America and the National Association of Farm Broadcasters, which the PNW Ag Network is a part of, have partnered to end child hunger.  Feeding America works nationwide to meet the food needs of rural Americans.  Eric Williams, with 2nd Harvest which serves central and eastern Washington as well as northern Idaho, said they serve as the warehouse portion of a vital nutrition system covering 26 counties.

“We did 36 million pounds of food last year, for context, that's 17-18 semi loads per week," Williams said.  "But that's a heck of a lot of food.  90% of what we distribute is privately donated and a huge amount of that comes from your neighborhood farmers. It's really the farmers, the ranchers, the processors, the grocers who come together and make substantial donations. So that their neighbors in need have something to eat.”

All Donations Help Meet Local Needs

Williams says without the generous donations of those living in the Northwest, 2nd harvest couldn’t serve the thousands of people in need every day.  So, what are the priorities when it comes to donations?

“We're often asked which is a more important donation, food or funds, and the answer remains yes,” Williams said.
