Every year across the U.S. electrical accidents account for hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries.  To help reduce that figure, electricity companies and coops across the Northwest are marking May as Electrical Safety Month.  Stacey Azure with Franklin PUD says since we've grow up with it, many people don't appreciate how dangerous, and even deadly simple power lines can be.  She says when working, it important you are aware of your surroundings and this is very important when moving irrigation pipes or other tall pieces of equipment.  She added it's also vital to have a plan, and make sure it's clear to everyone.
"What you're going to do, what the task is.  Make sure you have your overhead lines clearly in sight and everybody at the work site knows where they are, both overhead and underground."
She added it's not a bad idea to rope off areas where you are working.  Azure says before any project, call for help.  811 will help you and your crew know exactly where all lines are located.
"We'll come out and mark the underground lines, or the 811 service will.  They'll come out and mark the underground lines and take that seriously."
