It’s been a hot dry summer across the Northwest, and that trend appears to be continuing as we transition into fall.  Currently, the latest drought number from the USDA indicate nearly one-third (31.62%) of Oregon is under the Extreme Drought designation.  In addition, 88% of the state is Severe Drought.  As it’s been the case all year, NE Oregon enjoys the best water numbers, but no portion of the state is on par for this time of year.

Washington meanwhile is in much better shape with only 17% of the state under the Severe Drought designation.  Most of that is in the southwestern portion of the state.
