Education, Fun On Deck For Potato Conference
The 2025 Washington/Oregon Potato Conference takes place this week in the Tri-Cities. Chris Voigt, Executive Director of the Washington State Potato Commission said with over 2,600 attendees and nearly 170 vendors, this is the largest potato Conference in North America. Voigt said the 2025 Conference is jammed packed with news and information growers need to be more successful. Adding this year, they will focus a fair amount of time on many of the new rules and regulations growers must face.
"Complying with the new outdoor heat and smoke fire rules. Sure that our doors are up to date. On that. As well as the EPA rulings that on how we can. Use pesticides in endangered species and how they all interact."
Voigt said growers will also learn the latest in cutting edge research, including Gary Secor, a North Dakota State University researcher, and annual crowd favorite.
“He's going to be talking about plant pathology. And Gary, I think was originally from Montana and he’s just, he’s worth the registration fee alone right there. He just got a fabulous personality and is able to really kind of take complex research ideas and boil it down into simple terms that everybody can understand. We're also going to be having Russ Groves out of the University of Wisconsin. Russ is going to be talking about resistance management for Colorado Potato Beetle, as well as some of the new interesting RNAi based insecticides; kind of a whole new technology.”
The 2025 Washington/Oregon Potato Conference Runs Tuesday January 28th-30th at the Three Rivers Convention Center in the Tri-Cities. To learn more about this year’s event or to register, visit the Potato Conference's Website.
