Dairy Margin Coverage Enrollment Open Through Late February
Sign up is under way for USDA’s Dairy Margin Coverage.
But as Farm Service Agency Administrator Bill Beam explains, this is an "enhanced" version, thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill which reauthorized DMC for calendar years 2026 through 2031. And Beam added that reauthorization includes serval program improvements.
“[USDA is] Increasing tier one coverage from five million pounds to now six million pounds and allowing dairy farm operations to establish a new marketing production history. And the way that's going to work is existing dairies that started milking cows on or before January 1, 2023 will use the higher milk marketing for years 2021, 2022 or 2023. So, you get to pick the higher of those production years. New dairy operations that started after January 1, 2023 will use the first year of their monthly milk marketing, even for a partial year. “
Questions? Reach Out To Your Local FSA Office
To verify that, Beam said FSA will look for milk marketing statements or production evidence. More details on dairy margin coverage are available through local FSA offices.
Deadline for enrollment is February 26th.
