Despite Strong Start To Water Year, Showers Not Expected Anytime Soon

Thanks to high pressure over the region, the Northwest has enjoyed sunny days and clear cool nights over the past couple of days.  That high pressure has also pushed rain clouds to our north or our south.  And it looks like the clear and dry weather pattern is going to stick around for the immediate future.

National Weather Service meteorologist Marilyn Lohmann said the Northwest will remain dry through the weekend, and our first real shot of rain, wont come until the middle of next week.

“And the outlook for the rest of the month does call for above normal temperatures and increased chances of above normal precipitation.  So, it does look like once we get a little pattern change and we’re able to get patterns to move through the Northwest, rather than around us."

Despite days of dry weather, the area is looking good precipitation wise for the month of October and the new water year.  That’s thanks to showers the first weekend of the month.  But Lohmann noted that’s not a guarantee will stay on par in the coming months.

“We say a huge amount of rain come through the area with generally, you know a tenth to a quarter, even some places had 1” to 2”.   So, we had a great start to the water year and the month of October but we’ll have to see how the rest of the month and the rest of this winter pans out for us."
