Late July is typically when the Northwest Cherry season starts to wind down.  But that is not the case this year.  So far, 22,660,153 million 20 pound boxes have been shipped out this season nearly matching the pre-season estimate with weeks remaining.

Northwest Cherries said the harvest started strong in June with 13 million boxes shipped, and the momentum continued into July.  While it’s difficult to pinpoint the final day of harvest, many cherry growers plan to continue into early August for some of the higher elevations where weather is typically cooler.  The Northwest industry has maintained an average of 506,911 boxes shipped per day since July 1st.

At this point, 35% of all Northwest Cherry Shipments have been exported overseas.
