It’s not often you hear of a community college in the agriculture breeding business.  However, Columbia Basin College in Pasco has a trio of breeding programs, focuses on alfalfa, soybeans and peppers.  CBC’s Tim Woodward said they worked with alfalfa for several years.

“So, we’re developing an alfalfa that you can use both for both biofuel, or for a more traditional alfalfa, feeding it to dairy or making hay for export.”

Woodward adds soybeans research focuses more on biofuel research.  While the peppers program is used as a fund raiser to pay for ag student competitions that take place regional and nationally.
